The Story

You are invited to meet at 8:45 for a 9:00 AM start. A moderate challenging 8-mile hike with about 1400-feet elevation gain. This hike will take about 5 hours. We will **meet** at the **end** point at 8:45 for a prompt 9:00 AM departure; at **Fort Montgomery parking**, 701 US-9W, Highland Falls, NY 10928 **GPS:** 41.32810, -73.98766. **Do not go to the start** of the hike as this may cause a problem for you in shuttling back. You must be able to assist in shuttling with the car you are driving. We will shuttle to the start of the hike at 1777 Trailhead, US-202/Route 9W, Tomkins Cove, NY 10986. GPS: 41.27429, -73.97305. We will start at the 1777 trailhead on Route 9W. The 1777 trail closely traces the route taken by the British, Hessian, and Loyalist forces led by Sir Henry Clinton to attack Forts Clinton and Montgomery. At Doodletown the forces split. We will follow the western section where we connect with the (R) 77/79 trail below Popolopen-Torne to Fort Montgomery. **Trail Map:** NYNJ TC Bear Mt Northern #119 or digital map of your choice. **My mobile number:** 914-844-7038 Bring appropriate gear including a light/headlamp, micro-spikes, snowshoes, food, and water. Review/bring your map to be aware of topography and our location. Check the weather and dress appropriately. **Weather**: Severe inclement weather cancels. **If Unable to Attend:** Please cancel at least 48 hours prior to the event, so people on the waitlist can attend. If on the day of the event, you cannot make it, please take your name off the going list. Not attending hikers will be marked as “No-Show.” People with multiple “No-Show” will not be allowed on future hikes.
