The Amityville Horror (1979 & 2005) - COMPARATIVE VIRTUAL DISCUSSION GROUP

The Story

**\*THIS IS NOT A WATCH PARTY\*** *The Amityville Horror* (1979) is a supernatural horror film that released to mostly negative reviews, but over time, it became a classic of the "haunted house" horror film. After a series of even more harshly received sequels, a standalone remake of the original was released in 2005, also to negative reception. For our third comparative Virtual Discussion Group, let's talk about how well (or poorly) did the original age and also if its sequel was able to provide a similar experience for viewers. **Titles:** *The Amityville Horror* (1979) & *The Amityville Horror* (2005) **Directors:** * *The Amityville Horror* (1979): Stuart Rosenberg * *The Amityville Horror* (2005): Andrew Douglas **Starring:** * *The Amityville Horror* (1979): James Brolin, Margot Kidder, Themes of Homeownership Anxiety in an Unstable Financial Crisis * *The Amityville Horror* (2005): Ryan Reynolds, Melissa George, Modern Horror Film Clichés Galore **Streaming/Where to Watch:** https://www.justwatch.com/us/movie/the-amityville-horror-1979 https://www.justwatch.com/us/movie/the-amityville-horror **Expectations:** Ideally, you've already seen the films and want to have a respectful discussion about them with other people who've also already seen it. You can still join if you haven't seen it, though.
